Sugar Free Flapjacks

Flapjacks are a firm favourite in my household. I love them because they are so easy to make and a great recipe to make with the kids. It's so easy to change the flavours swapping out the fruit for chocolate chips (so not sugar free) or adding nuts and seeds.

I use this particular recipe as a sugar free sweet treat for my kids packed lunch boxes. It has no refined sugar but it does have a good amount of honey. This recipe has no nuts which is required at pretty much all schools now I believe, and can be made gluten free by ensuring that your Oats contain no gluten.


175g Unsalted butter

225ml Honey

200g Your choice of dried fruit (raisins, cranberries, dates, apricots)

425g Oats

50g Desiccated coconut


Preheat the oven to 180° or 160° fan and line a tray bake tin with baking paper.

Melt the butter and honey over a low heat.

Add the fruit, oats and coconut and mix until fully combined.

Pour the mixture into your prepared tin and press the mixture down evenly with the back of your spoon.

Place in your preheated oven for approximately 25minutes. It should be golden brown and will look soft but will set as it cools.

Leave the flapjack to cool and then slice into as many pieces as you like.

Store in an air tight container for up to 5days. These also freeze really well.


You can swap out the dried fruit for the same amount of chocolate chips, nuts, seeds, chopped fudge or any other alternative you'd like to add. Just note that some of these alternatives are not sugar free!
